Hello.

Is it possible to organize a small tour for 4 people of the Sydney Air
Traffic Control tower?

What is the contact name of the person to speak to, and their number?

(The FAC switchboard had no idea).

I'd suggest not (well not all at once anyway). There's not that much
room up there, and an additional four adults roaming around during
a busy time might be a bit much. Some of the controllers, particularly
the one (or two) operating 'Sydney Tower' need a clear view of pretty
much the entire aerodrome which in turn requires a view across the
inside of the tower cab as well as directly out the windows. Four
extra bodies need to be very careful about where they stand.

Call the tower and ask. That said, I can't help but wonder if the
American's war on everything has affected access to ATC facilities!

Depends on the reason for the visit

9/11 made us stricter, but the American's war on everything hasn't
helped ease anything.

I have arranged such visits - I have had no problems finding the tower number in the telephone
directory. Ask for the senior controller.... he will tell you if and when - and how many he is
prepared to take.

I have found them always accommodating - Toronto, San Francisco, LA, Sydney, Brisbane, Gold
Coast, Archerfield (recently) and Bankstown but the majors may be somewhat more difficult now.

The last one I did was an all day gig at Singapore. My wife and I both
went. Buses provided between the underground bunker ATC for the region,
the tower, and the terminal. Hot lunch, address from the Director of
Civil Aviation. A great day.

They offered two tickets to each airline that used Singapore. I ended up
with the two given to Singapore Airlines.

Noodle, put something in writing. Dont just "Ringup". Tell them who
you are and what you want and dont demand. You might get lucky. A few
yares age b4 911 I sat up in the Cairns tower for a couple of hours.
Had a ball and the 3 guys up there were all to helpful. And they
invited me back when ever I liked. It pays to be humble.
